The Durrington “You” Group

A Group specially formed for those seeking wider interests

Next Meeting – 2.30pm, Wednesday 18th January 2017

To mark the end of the year our November and December meetings were merged to a meeting on 30th November where Sybil Blandon spoke of her career as a Home Help.

We learned of the hard work, frustration, and humbleness in a career caring for older people.   It was an interesting and frequently humorous talk highlighting the dedication required.   In Sybil’s time it was a 7 day week, every week including Bank Holidays.   In one of her cases her attendance for the same person extended for more than eight years.   It came across very clearly that Angels do exist in the Care Service,    Also quite clearly there is a job satisfaction and feeling of self-worth that arises from helping others to live a dignified life despite their physical limitations.    Well done Sybil.

With Christmas approaching we had a demonstration and tasting of Christmas Cocktails – mainly non-alcoholic from combined fruit juices and cordials.

Keeping up the Christmas theme, Tea and Coffee time was very special with fruit cake and mince pies supplied by members.

For our January meeting we are hoping for a return of Carole Sharpe who will introduce us to her new Guide Dog.    To be confirmed.

We Meet at St Symphorian’s Atkinson Room, Church Hall, New Road, Worthing BN13 2PU.  Cost - £3.00 - including refreshments.   The meeting closes at 4.00pm’ish.      Visitors always welcome.
